Nico Williams has opened up on why he stayed at Athletic Club despite interest from Barcelona and Arsenal.

Barcelona tried and failed to sign Williams last summer, and Arsenal are keen on recruiting him in 2025, but for the time being, he is very happy at Athletic Club. The winger says the relationship he has with the club and the fans is "incredible".

“This relationship we have at the heart of the club is incredible. Everyone respects everyone else, which is incredible," he told France Football. "This atmosphere, I’ll never have it anywhere else. I decided to stay because of that. I took the decision I thought was the right one. I’m happy, and I’m trying to do my best."

Williams made a name for himself with some stunning Euro 2024 performances for Spain on their run to the title and he continues to impress at Athletic Club. If any team does sign him, it will not be on the cheap and he is likely to command big wages, too.

Aside from Williams' future, the 22-year-old – whose contract runs until 2027 – is likely to feature for his side on Sunday at home to Mallorca in La Liga action.
